October 8, 2024, Press Release from the Wood County Sheriff's Office: On 10/07/2024 at 3:34 p.m., the Wood County Sheriff's Office was informed of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 6 and Range Line Rd in Weston Township. The crash involved a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2013 Volvo semi-tractor pulling a tanker trailer.
The investigation showed that the Chevrolet pickup truck, operated by Jacob Kern, 31, of Deshler, was traveling south on Range Line Road and failed to stop at a stop sign. The pickup traveled onto US 6, where it struck the trailer of the semi tractor-trailer, operated by John Secord, 44, of Lasalle, MI, which was traveling eastbound. The pickup became lodged under the semi-trailer and became engulfed in flames.
Mr. Kern was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Secord was not injured. US 6 was closed in both directions for an extensive period of time for vehicle recovery and crash investigation.
Assisting on location were Weston Fire & EMS, Bowling Green Fire Division, Central Joint Fire District, Milton Fire Department, Wood County Coroner's Office, Wood County Park District Police, Wright's Towing, and Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).
The incident is under investigation.
