FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) - A Riverdale teacher is facing charges after assaulting a student.

Physical Assault

On April 14th of 2026, deputies at the Handcock County sheriff's office responded to Riverdale local schools regarding a reported assault. According to officials, assistant principal Nathan Sorg confronted a student about a suspected vape device. The incident then escalated when the student tried to leave and the staff member tried to stop the student. A physical altercation then followed, resulting in the student sustaining minor scratches on the face, neck, and jaw. The school staff then looked into the student's belongings, to which a vape was never found. Sorg, who is 52, is being charged with a misdemeanor of assault and is currently awaiting court appearance in Findlay. He also was placed on administrative leave.
