Delphos St. John's students celebrate donation to service group with domino fun

DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) - Elementary students at Delphos St. John's wrapping up their donation to a local service group with a fun experiment.

The elementary school chose to collect cereal boxes to make a donation to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which provides food, home supplies and furnishings to those in need. All in all, the school collected around 300 boxes of cereal and decided to have some fun before dropping them off.

With help from some high schoolers, the students put their domino skills to the test and managed to create a chain of cereal boxes that started upstairs and made its way down the halls of the elementary school.

Beyond just being a fun event at the end of the school year, school officials say the donation is a reflection of the virtues they have been celebrating since August.

"This year, our theme is faith, and each month we practice a different virtue," said elementary principal Kristin Gable. "This month we're practicing justice, and thinking about giving others something that they need or deserve - and so in practicing that virtue, we thought we can practice justice by collecting items to give to people that are in need, and what better thing than cereal for a bunch of kids."

The high school and junior high will be gathering up their donation on Wednesday. The school also made a food donation to St. Vincent de Paul around Thanksgiving time.
