“We will be doing an honor escort from the American Legion to the fairgrounds that day,” said Tamara Wilson, executive director of the Allen County Veterans Service Commission. “We will have police and fire escorts that will lead us into the fairgrounds for our Veterans Day at the Allen County Fair, and we would like our community to participate and give our veterans of Allen County a proper welcome home.”

October 15, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Congressman Bob Latta: BOWLING GREEN, OH — Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) today presented Paulding County Veteran William Young with a Bronze Star for his meritorious service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Young served as one of the members of the 'B' Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, Military Police Brigade. This Bronze Star awarded to Young is part of a larger effort by Latta's office, spearheaded by a group of the members of the 'B' Company in their appeal to obtain the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) to recognize their service during the Vietnam War.

Wreaths Across America honored veterans' sacrifices today at the Shawnee United Methodist Church. The Wreaths Across America organization is most recognized for placing over 2.7 million veteran wreaths at over 3,000 locations nationally and abroad. Today, as part of their year-long mission to recognize our nation's veterans, they rolled out their mobile education exhibit for the local veterans and the community to come experience and learn about their mission. The exhibit had a special focus on Vietnam veterans and how they did not get the proper welcome home when they returned from war, and how we can honor those men and women and show them the proper thank you today.

It was a Monday afternoon full of family, friends, and patriotism for some special veterans at the Allen County Regional Transit Authority. Fifteen Lima area Vietnam veterans arrived the Allen County RTA for the Flag City Honor Flight Trip to Washington D.C.

The VFW held a motorcycle escort of the American Vietnam Traveling Wall that had thousands of bikers in attendance. The Traveling Wall has been traveling around the United States before arriving in Wapakoneta. The escort saw the wall take a 22-mile ride down to Sidney where it will be on display in Custenborder Field. The wall represents the men and women that have died serving this county in Vietnam. We spoke to the adjutant of the VFW Post about how important it is to hold this event and remember those who served.

The Village of Harrod was excited to bring the annual Pork Rind Festival back this year, but it was a day that became more meaningful for some than others. A group of Vietnam Veterans celebrated their 50th year reunion.

Jeff Tracy served his country from November 1970 to April of 1972 in the United States Army 101st Airborne. He says those years were difficult yet fulfilling as they are a big part of who he is today. He shared old war stories and even talked about the hardship he felt for more than 40 years of how he was treated when he returned from Vietnam. It was a young stranger that changed that for him in a chance meeting 10 years ago at an Honor Flight reception. He now shares his experiences with pride.
