You may swim in Grand Lake St. Marys this summer but it will still be at your own risk. The message at St. Marys Rotary is that the water quality is heading in the right direction though. Dr. Stephen Jacquemin of Wright State University has been working on conservation efforts for Grand Lake St. Marys for years. He presented to the St. Marys Rotary Club that the progress in removing toxins from the lake has been remarkable.

Wright State University Lake Campus was the topic of discussion Wednesday afternoon at the St. Marys Rotary Club meeting. Interim Dean Dan Krane gave a quick overview to the Rotary Club on how the school is doing just a week after the first day of classes. A big part of the talk involved the role that the community plays in the success of Wright State and all of the backing that the university has received from the area over the years.

A strike is coming to an end at Wright State University, including the Lake campus after a deal was reached over the weekend. University officials and union representatives met together with a federal mediator over the weekend.

Hundreds of teachers at Wright State University are on strike. Officials at the state school say classes will continue with most teachers still on the job, including some union members. Some classes will be combined, some taught by substitutes and others offered online.

For the last few years, the Wright State Lake Campus has been involved with monitoring and testing the Grand Lake St. Marys Watershed, and Dr. Stephen Jacquemin from the university gave an update to the Lake Improvement Association on some of the things they have been able to find.
