LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Perry Elementary School students had the opportunity to explore various career paths and learn about college options during the school's first-ever Mini College and Career Day on Thursday.
Kindergarten through fourth-grade students visited several stations, meeting professionals from diverse fields, including chemical engineering, postal services, graphic design, and cosmetology. Meanwhile, fifth and sixth graders had the chance to speak with representatives from Apollo Career Center and Wright State University Lake Campus to gain insight into skilled trades and the college experience.

Organizers said the event provided students with a chance to understand the importance of their education while exploring potential career pathways.
"We have a lot of students: 'why do I have to learn this math problem?' It gives the teachers an opportunity to explain why we're learning these things and how it can influence different things in the future for them. So typically, when you ask a student what they want to be when they grow up, it's about four or five things, but there's so much other opportunities out there, and I just really want to bring that awareness to them," says Courtney Epley, Elementary Guidance Counselor, Perry Local Schools.
In addition to the student activities, Perry teachers proudly wore their college gear, showing students where they went after high school.
