Our Daily Bread sees drop in attendance amid arctic cold

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Despite recent arctic temperatures, Our Daily Bread has seen a drop in attendance.

On an average day, the soup kitchen typically serves about 120 people for lunch and around 80 for dinner. In recent weeks, that number has dropped to about 75 for lunch and 50 for dinner.

In addition to serving two hot meals a day, the shelter also provides showers, hygiene products, clothing and a warm place to sit. Our Daily Bread says inclement weather has made it difficult for people to get there.

“It’s been really, really hard for people to get out because they are in need of housing. So, they've been out in the weather, so it's hard for them to find a way here, or they've been at warming shelters and they don't leave because they don't want to lose their spots,” said Sami Stapleton, site manager at Our Daily Bread.

Our Daily Bread has expanded its hours and now opens earlier, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Stapleton said everyone is welcome.
