ELIDA (WLIO) — Wapakoneta entered the Elida Fieldhouse riding a three-game win streak, looking to carry that momentum into the postseason. Instead, Elida authored a gritty overtime upset.

The Redskins opened quickly, building a 5-0 lead after one quarter before Jonathan Payne got the Bulldogs on the board with a soft finish off the glass. Caleb Moyer later set up Ryan Richardson to keep Wapakoneta in front in a tight, back-and-forth battle.

Elida’s defense sparked a surge when Brady Bruin came up with a steal and pushed it ahead to Marcus Hill for a layup. Henry Eley responded for Wapakoneta with a pull-up jumper, but Payne continued to provide offense for the Bulldogs as the game stretched into overtime.

In the extra session, Elida made the decisive plays, earning a 35-31 victory. The win marks the Bulldogs’ second Western Buckeye League triumph of the season.
