LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Before the first pitch at Simmons Field, the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League honored longtime Lima Locos president and team owner Dr. Bill Leahy, inducting him into the league’s 2026 Hall of Fame class. Leahy, who was also inducted into the Locos Hall of Fame around this time last season following his 20th year with the franchise, was surrounded by friends, family, and players as he received the league’s highest honor.

Then the Locos backed up the celebration with a dominant win.

Lima entered the night at 30-10, while Flag City came in at 20-19. The Sluggers threatened in the top of the second with a runner trying to steal second, but Shane Miranda delivered a perfect throw to Elijah Buffaloe to cut him down and keep the game scoreless.

In the bottom half of the inning, Lima’s patience at the plate broke the game open. With the bases loaded, Desmond Francis was hit by a pitch to force in the first run, scoring Miranda for a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Tyler Vansumeren, drew a walk to bring home Gabe Gonzalez and make it 2-0. Moments later, Cameron Owens hit an RBI groundout that scored Braylon Cordonnier, pushing the Locos in front 3-0.

Flag City went to the bullpen and brought in Ben Best, who recorded a swinging strikeout to limit the damage, but Lima never let up.

By the fifth inning, the Locos had extended the lead and then delivered the knockout blow. Cordonnier singled to right to drive in Cameron Greene, and Grant McGuire followed right behind him as Lima poured it on with a surge that turned a 3-1 game into a runaway.

The Locos won 11-1 in seven innings and improved to 31-10 overall.
