NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) — Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton met with local farmers Thursday at the Henschen Family Farm outside New Knoxville to hear firsthand about the challenges facing Ohio's agricultural community.
During the visit, Acton discussed concerns ranging from crop markets to rural health care as she toured the farm and spoke with area producers.
Acton said Ohio should focus on developing new markets for corn and soybeans to improve profitability for one of the state's largest industries. She also said she supports fully funding Ohio State University Extension offices and colleges to help prepare the next generation of farmers.
In addition to agriculture, Acton said the affordability and accessibility of health care remain major concerns for rural residents.

“So, this is the big issue I hear about people having to work a second job off the farm and how difficult it is sometimes to access mental health care and so much more. So, that's top of mind for us. We're looking at the cost of everyday living out here in rural Ohio, some of the same issues around the cost of housing, energy bills, childcare and how much it costs,” says Amy Acton, Democratic Candidate for Governor.
Acton also responded to political advertisements produced by a political action committee that question her medical license.
“First of all, you know, this is completely false. These are lies. We know our opponent is panicking because we've been tied or ahead in every single poll. They've done $32 million in ads right now and I think they're getting desperate. My license has always been in great standing and and people can look that up for themselves,” states Acton.
Acton is running against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy and Libertarian Don Kissick in Ohio's Nov. 5 general election.
