LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Memorial Foundation gave supporters a behind-the-scenes look at the hospital's cardiovascular services during a Cardiology Insight Tour.

Guests toured key areas of the Heart and Vascular Institute and learned how community donations have helped expand and improve patient care at Lima Memorial Health System. Stops on the tour included the foundation's cardiac rehabilitation gym, advanced echocardiography equipment and the hospital's cardiac catheterization lab, where physicians perform life-saving procedures.

Foundation officials said the recent investments have helped advance their mission of improving cardiovascular care for patients throughout the region.

Lima Memorial Foundation highlights cardiovascular advancements during Insight Tour

"In the last few years, we've really focused on how we can make sure we have the best cardiac equipment right here in Lima to support the very best physicians that we have here at Lima Memorial," said LaShae Burwell, director at the Lima Memorial Foundation. We want to ensure that our community can come here for the care they need."

Physicians with Lima Memorial said the event gave community members an opportunity to see firsthand how local donations have strengthened treatment options and enhanced cardiac care in the Lima area.

"We provide all kinds of care, and with (financial) support, we are doing almost everything which can be done in major institutes like we can do structural heart procedures, which includes minimal procedure to fix valves or minimal invasive procedures which can fix the hole in the heart. You don't have to go out of town to get these kind of services. Lima Memorial provides all kind of cardiac care with the support of the community, said Hemraj Makwana, attending international cardiologist.

Board members said the Cardiology Insight Tour was the second Insight event hosted by the Lima Memorial Foundation. The first was held in February.
