America 250 Hometown Proud: Allen County Manufactured Homes
SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLIO) — Finding a place to call home looks different for every family. At Allen County Manufactured Homes in Shawnee, owner Darren Rockhold says helping local families become homeowners is what makes his job worthwhile.

Rockhold has worked in the manufactured housing industry since the 1980s and opened Allen County Manufactured Homes in Shawnee two years ago.

"It's very rewarding, you see the sparkle in their eye and the kids run through, and they are already picking their bedrooms out… where the bunk beds are going to be."

Rockhold said manufactured homes can provide another option for families looking to own a home, with affordability often playing a major role.

"The amount of money that you're going to borrow is going to be less than half because they are geared for affordable housing."

Since opening in Shawnee, Rockhold said he has watched families return and multiple generations stay connected through the homes they've purchased.

"We have repeat customers. They come in, they see their mom and dad, and pretty soon, you got the kids with the grandkids wanting to buy a mobile home in the park so that the grandparents can come down and visit their grandkids."

Rockhold said helping people in the community he calls home is one of the most rewarding parts of owning a local business.

"Well, that makes you pretty proud because we come from here. We sell them here for the people that live here."
