MASON — The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star Game featured plenty of local flavor Tuesday night, with players from the Lima Locos, Sandusky Mariners, and Jet Box Sluggers all making their mark in a tightly contested 1-1 tie.

Locos manager Chad Ehrnsberger led the North Division squad, and his players made their presence known early. Sluggers southpaw Braxton Betancourt earned the start on the mound and struck out two in a scoreless first inning.

In the second, Flag City’s Harrison Engskov lined an RBI single to right field, bringing home Locos outfielder Grant McGuire to put the North ahead 1-0.

On the mound, the Locos’ Cameron Darrington, Brady Fitzpatrick, and Anthony Lariz each worked through jams to keep the South in check. Fitzpatrick escaped a bases-loaded situation in the fourth, and Lariz followed by stranding three runners of his own in the fifth.

The South’s lone run came in the fourth inning to even things up at one.

Sandusky’s Tanner Coddington turned in a key moment in the sixth, striking out a batter with the bases loaded to maintain the 1-1 score.

Evan Shapiro closed the sixth with a strikeout, continuing the dominant pitching theme of the night.

Despite several threats from both sides, neither team could break the deadlock, and after 10 innings, the All-Star Game fittingly ended in a 1-1 draw.

GLSCL regular season play resumes Thursday.
