CONVOY, Ohio (WLIO) — It's been said that Crestview senior Hayden Perrott represents his school's basketball program with class.
A leader by example, he's also made his mark on the gridiron and on the track. His dedication extends to the classroom as well, where he carries a 3.7 GPA.
"Number one is the work ethic that he puts into the game of basketball," said Crestview boys basketball head coach Doug Etzler. "He's one of the guys that puts a ton of time in the offseason to work on his skills, shooting, dribbling, just to make sure that he's ready to go for our season, but just number one, his work ethic, the amount of time he puts into it."
Success follows Crestview's Hayden Perrott wherever he goes. From basketball to football and in track and field. The Knight senior just loves to compete.
"I think the biggest part of me picking all three sports is just wanting to compete with my friends, and being able to have success at all three of those sports at Crestview is big — always been competitive no matter what, like because of the standard that is placed before us," said Perrott.
And Hayden's hard work has paid off. He will continue his basketball career at the University of Saint Francis.
"It felt right, like there's sometimes some places don't feel right, sometimes they do," said Perrott. "And another thing I'd say is when I was younger, one of the guys that I looked up to was Connor Lautzenheiser and he also went to the University of Saint Francis to play basketball, so that might not have been a direct impact, but I'd say definitely makes me think a little bit. Like, I looked up to him, he went to Saint Francis, and I was able to follow in that."
When it come to his work in the classroom, Hayden has a 3.7 GPA.
"That's a lot for a high school kid to juggle all those things, three sports and keeping up with your grades," said Crestview math teacher Zach Rosenbeck. "And that just shows his dedication and his willingness to work hard and put his mind towards something that he really, really wants and his end goals."
Perrott plans to major in sports medicine and he has goals of becoming a physician assistant.
"I'd say one of the biggest things recently was my junior year in track when I ended up hurting my knee," said Perrott. "Seeing like first-handedly how like physician assistants or physicians helped me get back to how I wanted to be and helped me get the information I needed to be able to go get back to healthy and get back to having a great senior season. I think that really like impacted me to the point where I felt like this is what I want to do, this is what I want to go into when I'm older."
Balancing success in the classroom and in competition isn't easy, but for Hayden, it's a challenge he embraces. And he credits Crestview for instilling the work ethic and values that drive him to keep pushing forward.
"Just to keep working, keep dedicating my life, and keep working as hard as possible because of the things that Crestview has taught me, the work ethic, hard work, and honesty throughout all aspects of life," said Perrott.
Congratulations to Hayden Perrott — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week of the Week
