PANDORA, Ohio (WLIO) — Pandora-Gilboa senior Chase Meyer has been described as one of the top student-athletes to come through the school.

Meyer excels on the football field, the basketball court, and even on the track. And he's doing it all while maintaining a 3.95 GPA.

"He's an impressive human being when it comes to being an athlete," said Pandora-Gilboa football head coach Matt Hershey. "You know, he's not the biggest guy, not the fastest guy, but he plays with a ton of heart. He just works extremely hard, but individually as an athlete, he's one of the best to come through at Pandora-Gilboa. You see on Friday nights, he's very explosive, and there's a reason why he's one of the best receivers in the area."

Meyer said he has grown a lot during his time at Pandora-Gilboa. "I've learned so many things that I wish I knew my freshman year going in there. I do them because I enjoy the sports, and I really think it also gives me something to do after school. It brings out my competitiveness knowing that all three sports are competitive," he said.

Hershey added that Meyer has been a strong leader. "He's been great at being a leader and great at getting the kids, the other players, everybody on the same page. He does such a good job of just being a steady force. Doesn't get too high, doesn't get too low, stays even-keeled the whole time, and obviously the results on the field have proven themselves."

Meyer's success extends to the classroom as well. Pandora-Gilboa science teacher Lee Ruhe said, "He is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen in the classroom. He is always engaged in the lessons. He's always wanting to learn the why. He always wants to do something more to get better, and I think that this is a quality that will benefit him moving forward beyond the high school classroom."

After graduation, Meyer plans to attend a four-year university to study a field related to chemistry. "I just fell in love with it my freshman year, especially chemistry. Everything I did, I just understood it in an instant and really enjoyed learning about it every single day, and never really went back after that," he said.

What truly defines Chase Meyer isn't talent — it's the dedication to becoming the best version of himself each and every day.

Meyer summed up his philosophy: "I want to be remembered as a good student, and an athlete who works hard every day to become the best that they can be."
