ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) — St. Marys closed out the regular season with a 29–7 win over Elida, increasing a home playoff game while eliminating the Bulldogs from postseason contention.

The Roughriders struck first late in the opening quarter when quarterback Aiden Meinerding powered across the goal line for a 7–0 lead. Early in the second, kicker Braden Triplett added a field goal to make it 10–0.

Elida finally answered when Jonan Snyder hit Larry Smith on the outside, and Smith shook a defender and sprinted to the end zone to cut the deficit to 10–7.

That momentum didn’t last long.

Triplett connected on another field goal before halftime, and St. Marys dominated the second half on the ground. Caleb Schmidt led the charge with 192 rushing yards and two touchdowns, putting the game out of reach.

St. Marys has secured a spot in the playoffs, while Elida’s postseason hopes officially come to an end with the loss.
