Wapakoneta captures first WBL girls tennis title since 2016

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Champions were crowned at the Western Buckeye League girls tennis tournament Saturday at UNOH, and Wapakoneta finished on top of the standings for the first time since 2016.
In third singles, Wapakoneta's Brooklyn Mowery defeated Elida's Saige Bullock. In second singles, Shawnee sophomore Riya Naroor defeated Ottawa-Glandorf’s Myah Bockrath 6-2, 6-3 to win her bracket. At first singles, O-G senior Maggie Schiedebusch powered her way past Celina’s Isabelle Thobe with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
In doubles play, Wapakoneta made its mark. Naveah Dancer and Mylie Moser claimed the second doubles title with a 6-2, 6-0 win, while Ava Eley and Anja Walters added a first doubles championship, winning 6-2, 6-2.
In the team standings, Wapakoneta took first, followed by Shawnee in second and Celina in third. Ottawa-Glandorf and Elida tied for fourth, Bath placed sixth, and St. Marys and Defiance tied for seventh. Van Wert finished ninth, with Kenton rounding out the field in tenth.
The championship marks Wapak’s first WBL girls tennis title in eight years under head coach Austin Scott.
