Wapakoneta outlasts Liberty-Benton in overtime thriller

FINDLAY Ohio (WLIO) — Wapakoneta remained unbeaten on the season, but not without a fight, as the Redskins needed overtime to slip past Liberty-Benton, 44–43, in a tightly contested boys basketball matchup on Steve Williman Court.
Coming off a win the previous night, the Eagles welcomed in the 3–0 Redskins and went toe-to-toe from the opening quarter. Wapakoneta struck first behind Elliot Block, who converted inside the paint to give the Redskins an early 11–7 edge.
Liberty-Benton answered with a strong response from beyond the arc. Reid Irwin knocked down a straightaway three-pointer to trim the deficit to one, and moments later, a brush screen freed up Lincoln Holler, who buried a deep triple of his own to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
Wapakoneta countered once again, as senior Ryan Richardson connected from long range to keep the Redskins in front during the back-and-forth opening quarter.
The game remained close throughout regulation, with neither team able to create separation. That set the stage for overtime, where Wapakoneta was able to do just enough down the stretch to escape with a one-point victory.
With the 44–43 overtime win, the Redskins improve to 4–0 on the season
