As Independence Day approaches, the Lima Police Department is reminding residents to follow Ohio's fireworks laws and celebrate the holiday safely.

The Lima Police Department is reminding residents that Ohio law allows consumer-grade fireworks to be discharged only on certain dates and times surrounding the Fourth of July and only on private property. Officers are urging everyone to follow safety regulations, respect their neighbors and attend one of the area's professional fireworks displays if possible.
