NEW BREMEN, Ohio (WLIO) — It was a packed house at New Bremen schools today as educators came together to develop new skills.
The Mercer County Educational Service Center hosted its annual Professional Learning Conference, and more than 1,200 teachers and administrators from 13 districts were in attendance. Viral educator Gerry Brooks was the keynote speaker, focusing on building positive school and classroom culture.
Teachers then chose from 85 breakout sessions, covering topics like artificial intelligence in education, mandated reporting, and teacher wellness.

“I think one of the hardest things is getting teachers together to collaborate. We don’t have a lot of subs, so to do professional development to give people the opportunity to learn from one another, it’s difficult,” said Lindsey Schmiesing, curriculum director at the Mercer County Educational Service Center. “So bringing everyone together here today, they have an opportunity to collaborate with one another and learn from one another. And typically, what they learn here they can implement in their classroom immediately.”
Organizers say the conference has continued to grow over the last decade, and they hope to see that growth continue.
