Local standouts shine at UNOH in Division II girls sectional tennis tournament

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Day 2 of the Division II girls sectional tennis tournament wrapped up Thursday at the University of Northwestern Ohio, as several local athletes secured top finishes and district berths.
In doubles play, Bath’s Briley Kaple and Allyson Harnishfeger claimed third place, defeating Elida’s Emma Stauffer and Mya Long 6–4, 6–3.
On the singles side, Shawnee sophomore Riya Naroor earned the bronze with a 6–4, 6–1 win over Bluffton’s Hannah Nieman.
In the championship matches, Lima Central Catholic’s sibling duo Alexa and Alana Heffner captured the doubles title, defeating Shawnee’s Brailynn Murphy and Alivia Mack 6–1, 6–0.
Meanwhile, in singles, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Maggie Schmiedebusch took home the sectional crown with a 6–3, 6–1 victory over Celina’s Isabelle Thobe.
All qualifiers now turn their attention to next week’s district tournament in Port Clinton.
