A group took to the water Saturday morning to help out a local cause.
The Aquathon event was held on November 12th in 80 countries around the world, but this is only the second year that it's taken place in Lima.  It involves swimmers doing different aquatic events for three hours to raise money for different causes - this year, it was collecting money and canned goods for the Veterans' Food Pantry.
The last two years of the Aquathon were seen as a way for the Senior Citizens Services center to give back to the community.Â
"We need to give back to the community; last year we conducted this for the Alzheimer's Association, and this year was the Veterans' Food Pantry, which goes right in with yesterday being Veterans Day," said Betsy Winget, director of Senior Citizens Services. "We hope to make this an annual event as it is worldwide, and the main purpose is our responsibility to give back to the community."
Anyone can participate in the Aquathon next year, just contact Senior Citizens Services for more information.Â
