Allen County Commissioners encourage voters to attend proposed tax increase meeting

Commissioners are encouraging Allen County voters to attend a meeting about the proposed tax increase on the May ballot.

Wednesday(3/21/18) night is the last of the scheduled public meetings outlining the commissioners capital improvement plan. The 30-minute power point presentation explains why commissioners believe the 2-tenths of a percent sales tax increase is needed. They have made sure the ballot language states the money generated goes only to capital improvement projects and will only last 10 years.

"We've been working on this for a long time. We give a little bit of history of how we got to this situation we're in with the condition of our buildings. We've all seen the potholes. There's a bit of money in this plan for roads and bridges so we think it'll be in everyone's interest if they become educated on our capital plan," explained Commissioner Jay Begg.

The meeting will be held at the Youth Building at the Allen County Fairgrounds beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
