The public was welcome to an open house to join the RTA in celebrating the big 50th anniversary. Guests could pick up free swag and check out historical displays with photos and articles going back even before they were founded in 1974. People could see past vehicles, staff, and events like bus rodeos and learn about the process of expanding the RTA from just a garage to the current buildings and terminal.

Out of all the growth over the years, one of the biggest points of pride is how they've been able to improve the quality of life for Lima residents who rely on affordable public transportation.

"We currently transport a lot of people to jobs, medical, so I think they are afforded the opportunity to come to Lima/Allen County to live because transportation is not a barrier like it once was. There was a Lima bus company, but it was a private-owned company prior to RTA, and they could pick and choose who they transported. We do not pick and choose. We are truly a community resource," said Karen Garland, co-executive director of Lima/Allen County RTA.
