LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Allen County Engineers Office is ready to begin work on resurfacing roadways around the county.

Allen County Engineers Office discusses road projects, State Issue 2

The county engineers office held their final road meeting on Wednesday with all township trustees and the Allen County commissioners to finalize this year's road plan. The total costs for all of the road projects came out to just over $2.4 million, which is up from last year's $2.2 million. That includes just under 11 miles of paving and almost 59 miles of chip sealing; due to inflation, those numbers are up 11% on paving and 2% on sealing compared to 2024.

Allen County Engineer Brian Rhodes also spoke to the trustees and the county commissioners about the importance of Issue 2 on the ballot this year and why it's vital to Allen County.

"Issue 2 is extremely important for the entire county, in that it brings funding for projects, whether it be road, bridge, waterline, sewer line or drainage type projects," said Rhodes. "That money is utilized in the county level, the township level, the cities, municipalities, all the way across the board. What it does is it provides grants and low interest loans for those type of projects, but it does not cost the taxpayers any additional money, because it is the sale of bonds, and those bonds are paid for by existing state revenue."

The Allen County commissioners will need to pass a resolution authorizing the road program at their next meeting.
