LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - In celebration of America 250, Allen County Museum is preparing to open a new exhibit focusing on Ohio presidents.

The exhibit is designed to teach museum guests about government and how the eight United States presidents from Ohio shaped our government today. Six of the eight Ohio presidents were military veterans, and six first ladies were born in the Buckeye State. The exhibit features an interactive front porch in honor of the four Ohio presidents who gave front porch speeches.

The exhibit is part of a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Allen County Museum to open new Ohio Presidents exhibit for America 250 celebration

"You know, obviously federal funding has been a little difficult this past year and so it was quite a shock when we got the notification; I wasn't expecting to get it, I had kind of put it on the backburner," said Allen County Museum executive director Christine Fowler Shear. "It's really important because it gives you an opportunity to kind of look at things differently with the 250th and maybe get some different people in to see what you're doing, and you know just kind of show Ohio's place within the grand scheme of things. Because while Lima and Allen County history is local, it's also statewide, it's also country-wide."

The exhibit will officially open up to the public on June 28 at 3 PM.
