AMERICAN TOWNSHIP, Allen County, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen County Port Authority is sharing plans with the public for three roundabouts that will be built along North Cole Street in American Township.
The project includes single-lane roundabouts at the intersections of North Cole Street and Ohio State Route 115, Beery Road and Bluelick Road. Officials also said a fourth roundabout could be added in the future at Diller Road and Cole Street if additional funding becomes available.
Construction of the first three roundabouts is being funded by Google, which is developing a data center along the corridor. According to the port authority, the roundabouts are intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion as vehicle traffic increases in the area.
“Even right now with limited construction vehicles, as well as just the normal traffic, trying to turn left, trying to make those movements, can be a challenge, as it stands right now, and this project is really going to help motorists to get around the area a lot easier. It's going to make traffic more efficient, and it's also going to allow for the construction vehicles to get around more safely and really navigate this area. So it's going to be a benefit for all drivers who travel along North Cole Street,” said Theresa Pollick.
Officials said construction on the first roundabout at State Route 115 and Cole Street is expected to begin in June. To sign up on updates for the project, use the QR code below.
