LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Allen County property owners will have to wait a little longer for their second-half property tax bills this year as changes required by state law have delayed the billing process.

The Allen County Treasurer's Office says it has received calls from residents asking when they can expect their tax bills. The delay stems from the implementation of House Bill 186, which established the Inflation Cap Credit.

Because of the new law, county treasurers' offices across Ohio have had to update software and adjust tax amounts before bills can be finalized. Those changes are still being completed, delaying the mailing of second-half property tax bills.

"We're hoping to have that information finalized very soon for Allen County and then get tax bills out mid-July. But the main thing we want to make sure everyone knows is that the due date has changed. So previously it would have been July 10th. Obviously we do not have bills out in the mail yet. So the new due date is August 12th for this year," said Allen County Treasurer Krista Bohn.

Bohn said Allen County expects to mail second-half property tax bills in mid-July. Because of the delay, the payment deadline has been extended from July 10 to Aug. 12.

The Aug. 12 due date is a one-time change for Allen County related to the implementation of House Bill 186. Officials note that payment deadlines may vary by county, and taxpayers should refer to the due date printed on their individual property tax bills.
