LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A longtime local birding organization is taking on a new name while continuing its mission to connect people with birds and nature.
The Tri-Moraine Audubon Society has added "West Central Ohio Birding Community" to its name as part of a rebranding effort designed to increase awareness throughout the region and attract more bird enthusiasts.
Organizers say the group hopes to connect with the hundreds of backyard bird watchers across west central Ohio by offering educational programs, field trips and opportunities to learn more about birds and their habitats.
"We're building a welcoming community that brings birders from all walks of life to experience birds through field trips and sort of hands-on experiences. We provide education through a variety of sources, including program meetings. And then we want to support conservation of birds in our area," said Executive Director Dan Hodges.
The West Central Ohio Birding Community hosts monthly programs on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Ohio State University at Lima's Visitor Center.
The group's July program will take place July 7 with a summer picnic at Kendrick Woods beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature an evening of bird-themed games and activities.
