LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — With the tax deadline approaching, the City of Lima Tax Department is preparing to help residents file their returns before time runs out.

The filing deadline is April 15, and the department will begin extended hours starting Monday, April 6, to assist those needing help with city taxes. Officials are encouraging residents with questions to reach out by email, noting staff may be unable to answer phone calls promptly due to high demand.

Residents have several options to submit their returns. Completed taxes can be dropped off at the office, placed in the drop box outside the city building, or mailed, as long as they are postmarked no later than April 15.

Tax preparers also remind residents to bring all necessary documents when filing.

"First and foremost, they need to always have all their w2, forms, any 1090 nines they would have received and their schedules, like a Schedule C for self employment, Schedule E for rental income." says Chris Fast Tax Administrator City of Lima, "Always have those forms and schedules with you. And also for residents we will we will need the first page of their federal 1040 that they filed."

The Lima City Tax Department will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. between April 6 and April 15. The office will also be open Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
