Combustible materials touching wood stove pipe blamed for structure fire in Lima

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Combustible material placed too close to a wood-burning stove pipe caused a structure fire early Saturday morning in Lima.

The Lima Fire Department was called at 5:52 a.m. to the 500 block of Prospect Avenue after reports of smoke in the area. When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from a detached garage behind a home at 515 Prospect Ave. that had been converted into a living space.

Firefighters initially had concerns that someone may have been inside the structure at the time of the fire, but the resident later arrived at the scene.

Damage to the structure and its contents is estimated at approximately $21,000. Fire crews remained on scene for about an hour and a half. No firefighters were injured while battling the fire in below-zero temperatures Saturday morning.
