"We want them to know that it happens to every single person. Everyone knows somebody, but the difficulty is they just might not know that they know the person. So it is not a family secret that should be hidden. It should not be a taboo topic. This happens to everybody, and so when we try to hide it, that's when further problems arise," said Olivia DePalma, mobile advocacy and outreach coordinator at Crossroads Crisis Center.

A candlelight vigil will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Oct. 16, and “Make a Difference Day” is scheduled for Oct. 25. The full schedule of events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month can be found on the Crossroads Crisis Center Facebook page.
