DELPHOS, OH (WLIO) - The City of Delphos is seeking to keep fire contracts in place with two neighboring townships.
On Monday night at Delphos City Council, the city wants to enter into a new 5-year contract.
On Monday night at Delphos City Council, the city wants to enter into a new 5-year contract with Marion Township in Allen County and Washington Township in Van Wert County providing fire protection and rescue services to both townships. The main change is a slightly higher percentage of 3% per year under the new contract compared to 2% per year under the previous contract for additional money for services. We also talked with Delphos Mayor Andre McConnahea about this change.
"As with anything, costs went up. Everybody knows that, and council is just looking to kind of flatline that cost and just spread the cost around. Fire service is important, and we got to keep it running efficiently. Operational costs, as I said, they went up and everything. Not just operational costs; equipment costs have went up. The slight increase, I think, anybody in government right now expects minor increases, in some cases major. Luckily in this one, it's a very minor increase," says Mayor Andre McConnahea, City of Delphos.
As work continues on the contracts, a 90-day extension of the previous contract is currently in effect.
