LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Hundreds of kids and their parents lined up for one of the area’s largest Trunk or Treat events Saturday at Safety City.
This marks the second year the Lima Police Department and the Lima Noon Optimist Club teamed up for the community event. The first person in line arrived three hours early, and the line stretched down the block from Safety City. About 85 people, businesses and organizations participated, passing out candy, toys and other treats to children both inside and outside the venue.
Organizers said they’re thrilled to see the event continue to grow and bring hundreds of kids to Safety City.
“We keep seeing more and more people will have to get here earlier to set up, but it's fantastic. It's just a great way for us as a club to give back to the community. It's a great way for community members to come in and give back to the community. So, it's just a fun day. We're not raising any money. We're not doing anything like that. It's just a fun day to come out and have fun with the kids, bring them out and just let them enjoy the place," said Paul Downing of the Lima Noon Optimist Club.
“It's a great feeling that they come out here, and I get to see them, and a lot of them I've had in classes and stuff, so to see their, see them in their costumes, and they, you know, they yell out of me, Hey, Officer Eric, it means a lot. You know, the community, it's a great thing. The people here are absolutely awesome, and I enjoy it. It's one of the best times of the year," said Eric Mericle, Safety City officer.
Saturday’s event was just a warm-up for kids who will dress up again Thursday for Lima Trick or Treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Click here for a list of other upcoming Trick or Treat dates and times in the area.
