LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A Perry Township man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for killing his brother in 2024.
24-year-old Jacob Striff received the maximum sentence after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of his brother, Jeffrey Paxton, last September. Prosecutors say the two men got into an argument at a Perry Rownship home that escalated into violence. Striff claimed he shot his brother in self-defense, saying Paxton came at him with a screwdriver.
The original murder charge was dropped as part of a plea deal. Striff and his mother both addressed the court this afternoon before the sentence was announced.

Striff will serve 14 years in an Ohio state prison.
"I want to ask you, to please [sentence] on the higher end of this sentence," said Lisa Striff. "If it was turned the other way, I would be asking for that son too."
"I loved Jeff, and I mean that," said Jacob Striff. "I know, if you do grant me that, six years, it will never, never happen again. And I mean that. Please have mercy on me."
