Western Buckeye League powers advance as district softball tournament field takes shape

LIMA (WLIO) — Sectional final softball action across west central Ohio featured several league powers punching their tickets to the district semifinals.
In Division IV, Bath rolled past Ottawa-Glandorf 18-0, while St. Marys defeated Van Wert 8-2. The Wildkittens and Roughriders will now meet Tuesday at Elida in the district semifinals.
Liberty-Benton also advanced after an 11-5 victory over Kenton. The Eagles move on to face Upper Sandusky on Tuesday at Elida.
Division V saw Jefferson knock off Evergreen 13-5 to set up a matchup with Archbold on Tuesday at Napoleon.
Paulding blanked Delta 12-0 behind another strong showing from Tia Mendez, who broke the school record for strikeouts in a single season and now sits at 130. The Panthers will face Swanton in the district semifinals. Bluffton’s season ended with a 12-1 loss to Swanton.
In Division VII, Fort Loramie was eliminated by Southeastern Local 2-0. Russia defeated Pleasant Hill Newton 9-3 and advances to face Cedarville on Monday at Cedarville.
Jackson Center fell to Covington in a shutout, while Botkins cruised past Lehman Catholic 10-0. The Trojans will now take on Covington in the district semifinals Monday at Covington.
