LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Four local students received financial assistance to help continue their higher education during the Lima NAACP's 12th annual scholarship dinner.
The Lima chapter of the NAACP awarded scholarships to four students during the annual event. Two of the recipients were repeat scholarship winners, continuing to receive financial support made possible through donations from local individuals and businesses. Organizers said the scholarships are designed to encourage students as they pursue college degrees while helping ease the financial burden of higher education.
"Times are getting harder and harder for students to get support of financial support from year to year with the Department of Education being kind of demolished federally and getting support federally and getting assistance federally and with us just doing our little part. It just makes us feel good," said Dr. Carol Fails of the Lima Chapter of the NAACP.
The Lima NAACP said it has awarded approximately 80 scholarships over the past 12 years through its annual scholarship program.
