Allen County Health Commissioner Kathy Luhn adds, “People need to understand that our recommendations are flowing off of what we are experiencing. I know it can be confusing for people, first we were saying “if you are fully vaccinated you didn’t need to wear a mask”. Right now, regardless of vaccine status we are asking people to please wear a mask when you are indoors or if you are outside and can’t maintain that distance. We need to reduce the spread and save lives.”

Every county in the state is considered high incidence, that is because of the rise of the Delta Variant. On August 18th there were 3,303 new cases which is the highest one-day increase since February of this year. This increase is not just affecting large urban areas, but smaller rural areas too. Mercer Health in Coldwater is reporting the highest number of hospitalizations since spring of this year.

In his first coronavirus briefing in six weeks, DeWine laid out what Ohio looks like with the emergence of the Delta variant. The most recent data on coronavirus testing says that 86% of all samples were the delta variant. Officials say there are two Ohio's, the one that is vaccinated and the one that is not.

The Center for Disease Control uses the total number of cases per 100-thousand persons in the last 7-days and the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the last seven days to determine the level of transmission. As of August 1st, Allen County has a rate of nearly 65 cases per-100-thousand persons. That is considered as “substantial transmission”. The percentage of positivity has gone from 5.6% up to just over 11% in the last seven days as well. Local health officials say now is the time we need to change our strategy in limiting the spread.

Fifteen fire departments from four northwest Ohio counties, battling a blaze in Delta, Monday night. The fire reported at "Metal X " Monday afternoon, and at last word continuing to burn. Fire crews on the scene believe many of the flames coming from underneath piles of scrap metal. Toledo area media reporting the fire has closed down State Route 109 between Fulton County Road H and 20A.
