The Lima Noon Optimist Club is continuing their mission to keep children safe this summer.
This is the second week of their Safety City program, dedicated to teaching kids vital safety skills, from navigating traffic to understanding fire safety and even personal safety tips. Kids participate in interactive sessions where they learn to cross streets safely and understand the importance of staying alert in different situations.

Volunteers and local safety officials are on hand to guide activities and ensure the kids have a fun and educational experience.
"We want them to be able to be safe when they're out and about, and if they were to get separated from mom and dad, know where they're supposed to go if they're in a store; go up to the front where there's people; there's cash registers; there's cameras," said Eric Mericle with the Lima Police Department. "We want them to be safe when they're out riding their bike too—that they're riding on the right side of the roadway, they're using their signals to show what they're doing, and that they don't just slip out and turn in front of a vehicle. We don't want accidents to happen.

The program just keeps growing each summer; this year, over 1,200 kids have signed up to learn these valuable safety skills.
