LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – School homecomings are just around the corner, and that includes the homecoming dance. The Lima Kiwanis Club is helping high school girls look their best on one of the most memorable nights of the school year.
For more than a decade, the club has held its Diva’s Den event for prom season, but this is only the second year it has provided dresses to students during the fall. The dresses come from donations and are professionally dry-cleaned before area high school girls can select their favorite at no cost. The club’s goal is to ensure no one misses out on a school dance.

“Cost of everything is going up, including dresses. Dresses are very expensive, so and we don't want young ladies to be missing out on these, you know, really fun moments. So we love having this event so they can come in, bring a dress home for free, and go enjoy their special moments,” said Ann Meiring of The Kiwanis Club of Lima.
The club is accepting donations of old prom or party dresses to continue helping girls in the future.
“So, our inventory has dwindled over the years, as kids have taken dresses. So that is the biggest thing we need. So if you want to look in those basements, attics for all those dresses you may not be using, we would love to have them,” Meiring added.
Donations can be dropped off at Duffy’s Cleaners, 2505 Shawnee Road in Shawnee Plaza. The Kiwanis Club is seeking dresses of all sizes before the next Diva’s Den event, planned for early 2026.
