LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The City of Lima is stepping up enforcement against nuisance vehicles after Lima City Council approved a resolution authorizing hiring a towing contractor to remove vehicles that violate city code.
The resolution hires a towing company to tow unlicensed or inoperable vehicles, vehicles parked on lawns, abandoned campers, boats and trailers, and vehicles being stored on vacant lots.
City officials say the action adds the enforcement authority to code violation notices that have already been issued to property owners.
“The city has continued to send code enforcement notices in in efforts to get voluntary compliance from our residents to be able to get them to move those vehicles. But this communication that was passed tonight will allow it to have a little bit of teeth here and and actually see our contractor out and towing those vehicles for those residents that have received the notice and not been in compliance,” says Jessica Begonia, Lima’s Public Information Officer.
Council also approved a resolution addressing increased costs for the city's floating solar field at the Twin Lakes Reservoir.
The project is in its final phase, and city officials say the solar array is nearing the point where it will begin generating electricity for the Lima water treatment plant.
“We're a very high energy user. We use a lot of electricity and with this we'll save thousands, hundreds of thousands of dollars on what we're paying for electricity now. So, it's a very energy efficient. It's on water so we aren't using up any valuable land. So, it's just a good good project,” says Mike Caprella, Lima’s Utilities Director.
Construction on the floating solar field began in October of last year. The project carries an estimated cost of about $5 million.
