LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The City of Lima is preparing for a major investment in public spaces after receiving $4.1 million from the State of Ohio's capital improvement budget for 2027 and 2028.

During her weekly briefing, Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith said community development plays a critical role in driving economic growth throughout the city. The funding will support six projects focused on improving parks, recreation facilities, neighborhood amenities and community gathering spaces. Mayor Smith said the state's investment will help strengthen Lima's appeal to residents, families and businesses considering relocating to the area.

"We want to make sure that when individuals are considering Lima, whether that is a company wanting to move here, a family thinking about moving here, they can come into our community and they can see these public spaces where they can have a great quality of life," Smith said.

Projects include Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility improvements, restroom renovations and new playground equipment at city parks. Funding will also support the construction of a permanent concession structure and playground at the Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater.

Additional improvements are planned for the Schoonover Observatory and the north quadrant of Lima Town Square, known as Town Square Park. The redevelopment of the Cheryl Allen Community Center will also receive funding as part of the initiative. City officials say the projects are designed to improve quality of life while supporting long-term community and economic development throughout Lima.
