Mayor Smith and staff hears residents’ praise and concerns during Walking the Wards

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Residents in Lima’s First Ward shared their thoughts on neighborhood improvements and ongoing concerns during the city’s monthly “Walking the Wards” event.

Mayor Sharetta Smith and her staff met with residents at Robb Park to hear feedback from the community. Residents praised improvements made to the park and highlighted the positive relationships among neighbors.

Residents also raised concerns about damaged sidewalks and curbs, garbage pickup and the loss of the Rite Aid located at the corner of West Street and Robb Avenue.

Walking the Wards moves to a different ward each month and provides residents with reports detailing investments the city has made in their neighborhoods.

“So, that residents can see how many miles of road we have paved, how many miles of new sidewalks, what investments have been made in their parks, are there new homeowners that have utilized the city's downpayment assistance program, how many demolitions. So, there's just some key facts, things that we hear people talk about most and we want to show you on paper those investments that we made, but we also want to show you what's planned either for this year or the next year,” said Mayor Sharetta Smith, City of Lima.

The next Walking the Wards event will take place in the 3rd Ward at In Faith Ministries, 1575 E. High St., on June 30 at 5 p.m.
