Maria Stein, Ohio (WLIO)— Maria Stein Country Fest is back, adding even more events to the festivities.
Â
In addition to old favorites, Country Fest added new activities including human foosball, pie and hotdog eating contests and daily performances by special guests from the Cincinnati Circus. Starting as a collection of smaller festivals, Country Fest has become one of the most popular events in the community.Â
Â
Thirty-nine years ago, there was three little festivals in this town and they all kind of had a little bit of something but not a lot. And at this festival we brought all of their things together. The shrines have their beautiful land. This ground is amazing. It's got a lot of history in it. The Knights of St. Johns brings in their fried chicken. And then the Legion brings in their turtle soup. Yes, it sounds unique, but it is some amazing soup," said Jane Meyer, a committee member for Country Fest
Â
Tourists staying in the campgrounds also attend Country Fest every year. The event is run by local volunteers. Parking, admission, and entertainment are all completely free.
Â
"Well, if you want to have nice things in your community you're got to put the time in and volunteer your time. You can't just write a check out and think nice things are going to happen. You've got to support your community, support your kids, volunteer your time. Even when you don't think you have the time, make the time," said volunteer Jeremy Hess.Â
Â
The committee says Country Fest is dedicated to fostering fellowship, strengthening community connections and preserving values and traditions that define the region.
