LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima chapter of the NAACP is praising that the Allen County Sheriff's Office Deputies are now equipped with body cameras.
For a few years now, the local chapter has urged Allen County and the Sheriff’s Office to get body cameras for the deputies. Earlier this month, Sheriff Matt Treglia announced that their body worn cameras went live for deputies and field supervisors. Prior to getting the body cameras, Treglia had concerns and questions about how footage recorded inside private homes could be released. But with changes in state law along with improvements in video redaction technology, it helped clear the way for the Sheriff’s department to move forward.
"They have now purchased body cameras for the Sheriff department, and we're happy with that outcome. Our interest is very clear, and that is, we think the body cameras will both protect the officers, and the public," says Ronald Fails, President of Lima Unit of NAACP.
Fails adds that this addition the Sheriff’s department will benefit the community as a whole.
