WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — Fierce winds moving south into Auglaize County caused damage to buildings in Wapakoneta.
Roof damage was reported at the Auglaize County Municipal Courthouse in downtown Wapakoneta. Viewer-submitted video shows the moment parts of the roof were torn away and blown onto Willipie Street and into a nearby parking lot downwind. Wapakoneta officials temporarily closed Willipie Street while crews worked to clean up debris.
Just north of the courthouse, the Wapakoneta Family YMCA also sustained roof damage from the strong winds, prompting the facility to close. Portions of the roof were peeled back and curled. Workers were seen on top of the building attempting to secure the roof and prevent further damage.
