LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Hub recently hosted its first Lightbulb Lab for children in kindergarten through fourth grade, aiming to help kids discover their “lightbulb moment” of curiosity and interest.
The inaugural session focused on the environment and nature, featuring a variety of hands-on activities. Future labs will explore topics such as engineering and health, giving young learners the opportunity to experience different areas of study.
“Well, I mean, that is an ideal age because, they're explorer. They're exploring different things and trying to understand, and this is sort of cool. Maybe this is not so cool. Maybe I don't want to do this. So, it sort of gets them in a mindset of, maybe, what's the next step? Maybe when they get to another grade level, what they'd like to do, so it's just setting the baseline. Like I was a kid, I started out as a farmer, so I started out as a baseline, and then I grew I decided I didn't want to be a farmer, but it's that type of thing. So, they understand. They're getting education at the same time they're getting that hands on experience," said Jed Metzger, executive director of the Lima Area Chamber Foundation.
The Lightbulb Lab series will continue on the second Saturday of each month starting in January at the Hub in the Central District.
