LIMA, Ohio (WLIO)- New Lima–Housing for the Future is celebrating 25 years of building affordable housing in the area.

Since 2000, the nonprofit has developed more than 300 affordable housing units across Ohio, totaling over $61 million. Nearly 250 of those units were built in Lima to support low- to moderate-income individuals and families. Over the past 25 years, the organization has served more than 1,000 households.

“We're celebrating 25 very productive years... the organization hasn't changed. We have remained small, dedicated to our mission, and we have been most successful at it,” said Barbara Massa, former director of New Lima–Housing for the Future.

Current leaders are focused on expanding their service areas and creating more homeownership opportunities.

“We're definitely going to be bringing more single-family homeownership opportunities for our affordable housing citizens, as well as some additional senior rentals. We're expanding our service area, and we're also focusing on the area just outside the city of Lima — we're focusing on communities that we haven't focused on these last 25 years,” said Scott Frenger, director of New Lima–Housing for the Future.

As part of New Lima's most recent housing development, two modular homes on Hazel Avenue are set to be completed and closed on by October.
