Ohio State Lima students showcase research at undergraduate forum
LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Ohio State Lima students showcased months of research Thursday at the campus’ undergraduate research forum.

Projects ranged from planetary orbits to the possible link between smartphone addiction and hypnosis, to the role of women brewers in the Middle Ages. The annual forum is a chance to highlight student-led research across a wide range of disciplines. Charles River Laboratories also presented a $5,000 “Outstanding Student Research Award.”

Campus leaders say hands-on research is a key part of the student experience at Ohio State Lima.

“So many of our students graduate having completed undergraduate research theses, or before they graduate, they've presented at national or international gatherings, or they figured out important things about our community,” said Ohio State Lima Dean Margaret Young. “Last year, we had somebody create a diagram of all the trees on campus. So when we're walking around campus, you would know what it is that you're seeing and how it impacts what we experience on the day-to-day in our community.”

Some students will go on to present their work in Columbus and at national conferences.

Others may turn their projects into published research in scientific journals.
