Lima, OH (WLIO)- The Ohio State University at Lima and the West Ohio Food Bank teamed up for their pop-up food distribution event.

As part of "Share Kindness Week," The Ohio State Buckeye Pantry and the West Ohio Food Bank helped local residents, along with students, staff, and faculty, load up on food of all kinds. Everything from onions and potatoes to ground beef patties and care packages full of fruits, vegetables, and bread.

The event is an opportunity for Buckeye students to give back and show kindness by helping those with food insecurity.

The event is an opportunity for Buckeye students to give back and show kindness by helping those with food insecurity, as well as those struggling at the grocery store due to rising produce prices.

“Not only do we have students that are driving in, you know, from sometimes 30 and 45 minutes away, but we've got students at our Longmeadow residence, that's the apartment complex that's adjacent to campus. So there are a lot of folks that are in need that don't necessarily qualify sometimes for the programs that are run by the state and the government,” commented Chad Welker, the recreational sports coordinator at The Ohio State University at Lima campus.

The pop-up distribution donated 4,494 total pounds of food to 47 households.
